We have NOW raised almost $6,000 for the Honduras Book Project!
We Still need $4,000 to make the goal of $10,000
I hope everyone is enjoying this HOT summer? For me personally, I prefer winter, but I know it’s coming soon enough. I wanted to update each of you and once again, THANK YOU for your faithful, continued prayer and financial support!
As I have mentioned in a previous newsletter, Bill and I have been asked to go to Honduras and share a minimum of 1,000 copies of our children’s book titled “The First King of Rock & Roll,” in Spanish. It is a musical storybook and included is a CD containing the story, a devotional and a special song we sing together. We just received an email from the missionary with printing and CD duplication costs. As always, missions needs deep pockets…BUT incredibly WORTHWHILE! So far we have raised about $800 and we need to raise between $7,000-$10,000 to cover all the expenses…so you can see we have a long way to go! Deb Bennison and I were in Honduras almost four years ago working with the same Assemblies of God Missionary, Becky Hoshaw. What a worthwhile trip. She was able to get us into public and private schools, churches, etc. We gave away almost 3,000 copies of my book titled “Singing with Noah.” Becky’s heart is to go to different schools and churches in the northern part of her country. She also mentioned that the Assemblies of God Superintendent of Honduras would most likely ask us to help him with some projects while we are ministering there.
I can’t explain why God has opened this door of children’s ministry to a Musical Missionary….but I find myself LOVING it and desiring to do more of it. Being the most effective for the kingdom is what we want to be doing. If you could only travel with us and see the faces of the children when we give them a book of their very own and a CD. With each book comes a small, toy magnifying glass. This is used for them to find the names of David’s invisible armor listed on one of the pictures in the book. (A big shout out to Alan & Nancy Merlau and Jim & Kathie Pagels), for ordering, hole punching and stringing 1,000 magnifying glasses ahead of time! This is a very arduous, time consuming task and we sincerely thank them for helping us. Most all of the children come from very poor, uneducated families. The CD’s will definitely come in handy for the families that can’t read!
We also received an email from the National Assembly of God Headquarters (Latin American Library) and they have asked me to write a short synopsis for their upcoming newsletter about why I feel the importance of sharing my books with other parts of the world. That’s an easy one…because every child deserves the opportunity to hear the gospel and ask Christ into their lives. Bill and I are just thankful that God is allowing us to continue to serve him in this capacity. I will also be singing in churches and probably speaking for a women’s event somewhere in Honduras, so we will be very busy. The Latin Library has also been sending library packets out to different schools, prisons, etc. all over Central and South America, which includes copies of my books. This arm of ministry is reaching out to countless numbers of people that we could never possibly reach!
Our plan was to go to Honduras in August, but we felt we needed a bit more time to prepare our hearts for this journey as well as raise enough funding. We are hoping to go before the end of 2017, Lord willing. Honduras has been the number one country in the world for murder, so there aren’t many places that we will be going that are considered safe. Your prayers will be much appreciated.
If you would like to prayerfully help us reach over 1,000 children (and families) with the gospel in Honduras, there are several ways you can help. I will mention them below.
- PRAY- don’t want to go without your prayer support.
- Pray about asking your family or friends to join you in raising funds to print books at $2.60 per book. 1,000 books = $2,600.
- Duplicate CD’s that go with the books at $1.15 per CD. 1,000 CD’s=$1,150.
- Airfare per person is around $1,000. Could be more if we wait too long to purchase them. $1,000×2= $2,000.
- Room and board funding (don’t have those numbers yet). Most likely around $35-50 per person per day x 2 people=$800.
- Two nights in a hotel in Atlanta to/fro from Honduras. Around $150 each way=$300.
- Small gifts for the children. Especially the ones in the orphanages. Cost around $1.00 per child=$100-200.
- Monetary gift for the missionary to help her continue her work with kids. $500.
- Exit fees from Honduras. It’s kind of weird but they won’t let you leave the country unless you pay an Exit Fee? Last time is was close to $100 per person=$200.
- Sound/Video Technician. We would love to be able to take someone to take video recordings, etc. This is priceless when we return to help log what was accomplished and what’s still needed. His ticket would also be around $1,000.
- Unknown expenses always arise while doing missions work. This amount is unknown. Would like to have at least $1,000.
If we did all the above we would need around $9,750. If we cut out the offering for the missionary, the sound/video engineer, gifts for the children and unknown expenses, we would only need about $7,050. We know these figures are overwhelming, yet we serve a big God and if he wants this project to succeed, then His provision will come.
Thanks so much for reading this newsletter and being a part of reaching children for Christ in Honduras and other parts of the world. One last thought….right now the Latin American Library is working on sending my children’s book about Noah to Suriname in DUTCH! They are also sending the lost people group in Suriname the same book but in an abbreviated, simplified format and in their own language. It will be one of the first books EVER To be printed in their language! This is so exciting.
If you aren’t an active part of this ministry, please consider becoming a part. Bill and I need many more people to join our support team in order to do what God has called us to. We are eternally grateful and so will be the people that are reached with the gospel through your prayer and financial support.
